Our KewlFabric 7101 is based on 20 years of research, development and testing. It has been tested in the lab and in the field on multiple occasions by athletes, trainers and universities around the world. The common thread throughout has been that once it has been tried people want to use it because they feel the positive impact of the #activecooling provided by the #coolingfabric, KewlFabric.
What Makes KewlFabric an Active Cooling Solution?
I have discussed the concept, or my definition of #activecooling before. Active cooling as defined by me occurs when you "supercharge the body's natural cooling process" by increasing the amount of #evaporativecooling around the body beyond just wicking and evaporating the body's sweat faster. A safe and natural process to increase what your body is already doing.
#KewlFabric is designed to quickly absorb water and slowly evaporate it. It does this through the use of specially designed super absorbing fibers (SAF). Unlike other water absorbing mediums (i.e. crystals used in many neckbands), our #SAF is made up of long fibers with a greater surface area to allow for greater water absorption. Their construct is such that these fibers will hold onto the water forcing evaporation through airflow.
Built into a non-woven fabric that is three layers thick (a middle absorbing layer and two outer protective layers), the SAF quickly absorbs water and slowly evaporates it providing longer cooling (5-10hrs) depending on saturation, airflow and ambient temperature. The SAF fibers are blended with other fibers such as polyester evenly throughout the structure, allowing consistent absorption across the whole garment. Due to the materials and design of the fabric, it is built with anti-bacterial capabilities as there are no organic materials used in the making of KewlFabric 7101, and it is machine washable.
We have seen motorcyclists driving between Los Angeles and Las Vegas get 45mins to 1hr of cooling relief and think it is fantastic and construction workers getting 6-8 hrs of cooling relief and love how they feel. While the durations differ due to the amount of airflow and ambient temperature both groups recharged their #coolingvests quickly and easily by simply soaking the vests in clean water for 2-3 minutes and putting them back on. In the case of the motorcyclists they kept a ziplock bag and water bottle with them and soaked the vest in the bag.

Our three-layer KewlFabric design is then layered between an outer fabric that allows for evaporation and an inner layer that is waterproof as seen in the above video.
We have measured vests that added 1-1.25 lbs of water weight after being soaked for 2-3 mins. That means that the user was able to evaporate and be cooled off by over a pound of water. Hence, they #Superchargedthebodysnaturalcoolingprocess, taking us way beyond simply evaporating your sweat.
Please note that you need to use fresh clean water for two key reasons
The building block of our SAF fibre is acrylic acid, also a building block of salt, so salt water does not bind to our SAF fibres.
Whatever is in the water you use is absorbed by the vest so you do not want to get dirt in the vest that could start to smell.
User Tip.
Please hang dry your vest in your shower area once done with it until it is dry and then you can store it in your closet. It should not take more than 4-5 hours after use. We all know what happens when we take a wet garment and stick it in a corner.
A question often asked and that I forgot to address in the above. I stated "Built into a non-woven fabric that is three layers thick (a middle absorbing layer and two outer protective layers).." but forgot to mention the properties that you should look for in the two outer protective layers. I have always recommended a breathable, yet durable, fabric on the outside as this is the outside of your garment and a waterproof lining on the inside as this is the side that could be against the skin. In the past I have used polyester for traffic safety vests, or Oxford nylon for the outside layer and a specially treated nylon for the waterproof inside layer.
